Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton didn’t mean to infer anything about his future with the Denver Broncos when he posted a video of his 2025 season highlights on Instagram.
But with social media being the raging conflagration that it always is, his comment attached to the video — “Chapter Closed” — was sure to stoke flames in some circles, leading to a flurry of comments speculating about the Pro Bowler’s future with the Broncos, and whether he was referring to the “chapter” of his career in Denver.
Sure, it was obvious that Sutton was referring to the 2025 season being a “chapter.” After all, every highlight in the reel came from the season just completed. But that didn’t stop speculation from sparking.
Thus, Sutton subsequently squelched any doubts about what he meant — and his future with the team — in his Instagram story, writing: “I was obviously talking about Chapter 8”.

The 2025 season was, of course, Sutton’s eighth with the Broncos. And after signing a contract extension last year, a ninth seems a near-certainty; even trading him with a post-June 1 designation would result in Sutton’s salary-cap figure rising for 2026.
For reasons of production, connection with Bo Nix and cap management, Sutton isn’t going anywhere.
BRONCOS WILL STILL HAVE CHANGE IN THE WIDE-RECEIVER ROOM
That alteration will come in the form of a new wide-receivers coach, as Sean Payton dismissed Keary Colbert two days after the regular season concluded. Colbert was one of three assistant coaches shown the door barely 48 hours after the 10-7 loss in the AFC Championship Game.
Tuesday, Colbert landed with the Baltimore Ravens in the same position he held with the Broncos. He’ll reunite with Declan Doyle, the Broncos’ tight-ends coach in 2023 and 2024 who joined Baltimore as play-calling offensive coordinator earlier this month after serving in a non-play-calling coordinator role with the Chicago Bears last season.
Denver has yet to officially fill its vacancy at receivers coach.
The Broncos also have yet to re-sign any of their practice-squad wide receivers to reserve-future contracts. Practice-squad member A.T. Perry signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers; Michael Bandy and Elijah Moore remain unsigned.
