George Kittle knows how to keep 49ers fans talking — and his latest comments will only fuel offseason speculation.

Appearing in an interview with Sports Illustrated Now, the NFL All-Pro tight end hinted that San Francisco could look to reunite with some familiar faces — including former star wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Kittle was discussing expectations for the 49ers following what he framed as a “rebuild year” that still produced strong results.

“Message for Niners fans — hey, if a rebuild year got us 13 wins and a win in the Wild Card [Round], that’s pretty good,” Kittle said. “It’s only gonna be a little bit better from that. And all the boys are coming back again. And who knows — we might add some past friends.”

When pressed to clarify who he meant, Kittle didn’t name names outright — but he didn’t exactly shut the door, either.

“I don’t know,” Kittle said, jokingly. “I hung out with Deebo last night. That was fun.”

Asked directly if he’d like to see Samuel back in San Francisco, Kittle smiled and kept his answer short.

“I love Deebo,” Kittle added. “Are you kidding me? … I love Deebo. That’s all. I love Deebo.”

Samuel, who played for the 49ers from 2019 through 2024, was traded to the Washington Commanders in 2025 after earning First-Team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection during his time in San Francisco.

While Kittle’s comments stopped short of confirming any roster plans, his phrasing — particularly the mention of “past friends” — likely will spark speculation about whether a reunion could be on the table as the 49ers shape their roster.

For now, it’s only offseason chatter, but Kittle’s comments were more than enough to get fans dreaming.
