One NFL analyst is predicting that the Indianapolis Colts make a big splash in free agency this offseason.
Although if this prediction comes true, I’m not sure how surprising it will actually be.
Several ESPN NFL experts were recently asked to make a big offseason prediction. Matt Bowen’s prediction is that the Colts sign free agent pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.

“Hendrickson, who led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024, would immediately upgrade the Indianapolis pass rush,” Bowen wrote.
This would certainly be a big splash, but there are a few reasons that this wouldn’t come as a surprise.
For one, defensive end is arguably the biggest need that the Colts have. Adding both depth and steady pass rush juice are requirements this offseason.
In addition to that, he will be very familiar with Lou Anarumo’s defensive scheme after spending several seasons playing for him while the two were with the Bengals. Hendrickson’s most productive seasons came with Anarumo as his defensive coordinator.

And also of note, the Colts have reportedly expressed interest in Hendrickson previously. Last offseason, when the Bengals were potentially trading Hendrickson, the Colts reportedly called Cincinnati to check in.
Indianapolis is in “good shape,” as Ballard put it, salary cap-wise this offseason to take a more aggressive approach in free agency once again, which helps make Bowen’s prediction more plausible.
