The Houston Texans are one of the teams that will likely be shopping for a veteran running back in free agency.
With Joe Mixon being a top cut candidate after missing all of last season, and with Nick Chubb being a pending free agent, the Texans need to add a veteran back, as Woody Marks and Jawhar Jordan are the only notable backs under contract.
One player we could see the Texans having interest in is Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker, who is a pending free agent.
If you ask Sports Grid’s Paul Connor, he believes that not only will the Texans have interest, he predicts Houston will sign Walker in free agency.
“The Texans need a home-run hitter to take some pressure off C.J. Stroud. Walker would be a terrific fit in Houston’s zone-blocking scheme,” Connor said.
There’s a good chance the Seahawks are interested in keeping Walker, especially after his playoff heroics that saw him tally a pair of 100-yard games en route to helping the Seahawks win the Super Bowl.
But that impressive playoff performance might have driven Walker’s price up, and even with a ton of cap space, it’s possible Seattle balks at paying him.
The Texans would likely be very happy to pay up for Walker, who is capable of ripping off explosive gains whenever the ball is in his hands, which would take pressure off Stroud’s shoulders and open up more space on the back end.
Injuries have been a concern for Walker, but as the Seahawks showed in 2025, having Walker split work helps keep him healthy, and that approach paid huge dividends as Walker ran wild in the playoffs.
With Marks in the fold, the Texans won’t need Walker to carry a massive workload.
Houston is currently $1.4 million over the cap, but general manager Nick Caserio shouldn’t have any issue moving money around to make room for Walker.
