As the NFL offseason progresses, the Las Vegas Raiders are slightly behind the eight-ball in assembling their new coaching staff. This is due to the fact that they had to wait until after the Super Bowl to hire Klint Kubiak, who won Sunday’s game with the Seattle Seahawks.

Kubiak has gotten right to work. On Thursday, former San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike McCoy was hired to the Raiders’ staff.

McCoy, who spent last season as the interim head coach in Nashville, will be the assistant head coach. However, his role might be bigger than what is on paper.

Tennessee Titans interim coach Mike McCoy watches warm ups before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025.

With the Titans and his previous stop with the Jacksonville Jaguars, McCoy worked closely with Cam Ward and Trevor Lawrence. With the Raiders in position to draft Fernando Mendoza in the NFL Draft, this is a huge benefit.

McCoy has successfully coached quarterbacks such as Philip Rivers, Jake Delhomme, and Peyton Manning. Lawrence and Ward also had promising moments under his wing in their limited time together.

McCoy’s creates intrigue and shows that Kubiak values veteran experience with young signal callers. Kubiak has had multiple successful stops as offensive coordinator, including coaching Sam Darnold and the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title.

This combination will be an intriguing one when they fill out their staff and inevitably start making roster decisions.
