Fleck has the highest overall win percentage of any Gophers football coach since 1950.
MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota and head football coach P.J. Fleck have agreed to a new contract, which includes a monetary bump in performance incentives.Â
The U of M Board of Regents recently approved the new contract, as well as a $700,000 “management bonus” to boost his salary to $7.9 million. The terms of the new contract will also give him a $750,000 bonus for winning seven or more Big Ten games in a season, $300,000 for six and $150,000 for five. The previous contract paid a $100,000 bonus for winning eight regular-season games and an additional $100,000 for winning nine.
Fleck helped lead the Gophers to an 8-5 regular-season mark in 2025 and a 20-17 overtime win over New Mexico State in the Rate Bowl.
According to the U of M, Fleck is the fifth-longest tenured coach in program history and has the fourth-most all-time wins of any Gophers head football coach. He’s also fourth in Big Ten wins (39) and has the best win overall win percentage of any Minnesota football coach since 1950.
Since taking over in 2017, Fleck has gone 66-44 and 7-0 in bowl games — the most bowl wins in school history. In fact, his seven bowl wins make up 50% of the school’s total bowl wins (14).
Fleck agreed to a one-year contract extension back in July, keeping him with the program through 2030.
