Former Giants head coach Joe Judge has found himself in hot water for his comments at the eligibility hearing for Ole Miss Rebels’ quarterback Trinidad Chambliss
The New York Giants have done a lot of work this offseason, and it’s only a little over a month old. After firing head coach Brian Daboll midway through the 2025 campaign, the Giants quickly pounced and hired John Harbaugh to be their new head coach after he was surprisingly fired by the Baltimore Ravens.
Harbaugh has gotten to work building out his coaching staff and mapping out a plan of attack for New York. It’s quite a change of pace for the Giants, who have dealt with head coach drama for the past few years. In fact, one of their former head coaches, Joe Judge, has found himself in some hot water for comments he made during the eligibility hearing for Ole Miss Rebels‘ quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.
Joe Judge Makes Eye-Opening Comments at Trinidad Chambliss Hearing
NEW: Ole Miss coach Joe Judge tells pregnant partners of players during the season that the father has to play good football.
“He needs to be in another room, detached… he ain’t waking up for midnight feedings.”
Judge was hired to be the Giants’ head coach in 2020 after spending eight years working as a member of Bill Belichick’s coaching staff with the New England Patriots. However, his stint with the team went so poorly that he didn’t even make it through two full seasons before he ended up getting fired.
Since then, Judge returned to the Pats for two seasons before finding his way to Ole Miss. After turning heads for his work with Chambliss last year, Judge was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Ole Miss heading into the 2026 campaign after Lane Kiffin’s abrupt departure for the LSU Tigers.
Right now, the Rebels are trying to figure out if they will have Chambliss at quarterback in 2026, as he is currently in the middle of an eligibility battle. During a hearing for Chambliss’ eligibility on Thursday, though, the Judge ended up stealing the show when he revealed his thoughts on how football players and their significant others should handle raising newborn children during the season.
“If you have this baby during the season, that father has to play good football,” Judge said during the hearing. “You need to let him sleep. He needs to be in another room, detached. You have to explain to the mother, like, ‘Hey, listen. He ain’t waking up for midnight feedings. After the season, be full-metal jacket, do whatever you want with him. He can change every diaper. But in season, he’s got to have a different priority.’”
Giants are Likely Happy to No Longer Have to Worry About Joe Judge

Unsurprisingly, Judge has taken a beating from fans in the wake of these comments. Just because these guys play football doesn’t mean that all the responsibilities of raising a child should be put on their significant other. Raising a child is not a one-person job, even if you are getting paid millions of dollars to play football.
The good news for Judge is that it appears Chambliss won his eligibility hearing, but he likely didn’t earn himself any fans with these strange comments. For the Giants, this should serve as a reminder of just how lucky they are to have Harbaugh leading the ship now, and if all goes according to plan, he could help them emerge as a dark-horse playoff contender in 2026.
