In a recent mock draft using Pro Football Network’s mock draft simulator, the Jacksonville Jaguars addressed the linebacker position in the second round.
To minimize bias, I let the computer make the selections in this mock.
So, who did the Jaguars come away with in Round 2? Missouri linebacker Josiah Trotter.
Trotter is the son of former Eagles‘ All-Pro linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.
Trotter has played 1,144 defensive snaps over the last two seasons. This past year, with Missouri, Trotter was one of PFF’s highest graded run defenders at the linebacker position.

He also logged 14 pressures and three sacks as a blitzer. In coverage, he allowed 27 completions on 32 targets at 8.8 yards per catch. Trotter did not log any ball production.
Trotter is the seventh-ranked linebacker on Mel Kiper Jr.’s big board.
The level of need that the Jaguars have at linebacker this offseason is connected to whether or not Devin Lloyd returns in free agency.
If he’s back, the need is minimal. But if he’s playing elsewhere, the starting spot next to Foye Oluokun will be available. And while the Jaguars do have some candidates to fill that role on the roster, bolstering the competition for that playing time wouldn’t be a bad idea.
