Dallas Cowboys legend Troy Aikman
There are few names more recognizable currently connected to the Dallas Cowboys than team legend Troy Aikman.
Aikman, who was the team’s star quarterback for many years, has remained vocal about the Cowboys as an NFL analyst. He has shared great knowledge about many different teams, but it is clear that his football love still lies in Dallas.
Unfortunately, the Cowboys have struggled to get back to being among the NFL’s powerhouse teams. This past season, Jerry Jones saw his team come up short of the playoffs again. Entering the offseason, there are big decisions to be made.
After trading superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons last offseason, Dallas has an extra first-round pick. Jones also has some financial flexibility to work with. He’ll need to make the right decision sand moves if the Cowboys are going to get back into Super Bowl contention.
With that being said, Aikman spoke out about the current team and issued an incredibly blunt statement to them as well.
Troy Aikman Gets Brutally Honest About the Dallas Cowboys
While some can find silver linings in a season that doesn’t end in a championship, Aikman doesn’t feel that way. He made it clear that Dallas simply wasn’t good enough in 2025.
The Dallas Morning News shared Aikman’s quotes about the Cowboys.
“If you don’t make the playoffs, it wasn’t a very good year,” Aikman said. “Whether your culture is good or not good. Whatever happened, it wasn’t enough.”
Aikman also spoke out with a clear message to the team. He wants to see Dallas back in contention, but he’s getting tired of hearing the talk about contention each and every year just to fall short of the ultimate goal.
“Who knows? It seems every year, there’s a different storyline as to why or how this team is going to be playing in the Super Bowl,” Aikman said.
“I just want to see it. We’ve been talking about it for a long, long time. What’s going to happen, what’s not going to happen. How this year is going to be different. I think Brian Schottenheimer is a good coach. As far as changing the culture, I don’t know that that happened. I don’t know that it didn’t happen. How do you know if you’re not in the building?”
Dallas Must Go All-In on Winning Now
This offseason will be a pivotal offseason for the Cowboys. They have a lot of great pieces in place, but now it’s time to go all-in.
Jones will need to be aggressive. He has Dak Prescott still playing in his prime, but those days are short. CeeDee Lamb is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and there are plenty of quality pieces on both sides of the football.
Dallas can’t afford to have another wasted season in 2026. The Cowboys have plenty of avenues to improving the team. Now is the time to explore all of them.
It’s clear that Aikman’s patience is running thin with the team. Fans are growing frustrated by missing the playoffs and Jones certainly isn’t happy about it either.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Dallas this offseason. Hopefully, the Cowboys are able to make enough of the right moves to be a contender once again next season.
