The Dallas Cowboys shocked the NFL when they cut cornerback Trevon Diggs this past season, but inside the organization, it didn’t come as much of a surprise.
Diggs had fallen out of favor with the organization, and they finally decided to do something about it by cutting him.
Cowboys great Emerson Walls explained during a recent interview with 105.3 the Fan why the team cut Diggs. He says it was his actions off the field.
“There are some relationships that you think you can handle more than you thought. There are some relationships that are up and down,” Walls said.
He added, “I’m sure Trevon thought that this was going to work out, but you’ve got to do your part. There are rumors that he wasn’t doing that, and I’m not talking about on the field, necessarily. I’m talking about buying into the culture of the team.”

The Cowboys were not pleased that Diggs did not consult their doctors about his knee injury, and he remained on the injured reserve list for most of the 2025 season. Even when he returned, he wasn’t himself.
Walls felt that Diggs never fully bought into what the team was selling, which caused a major rift between the two parties that never healed.
