Before star pass rusher Myles Garrett signed his new contract to remain with the Cleveland Browns last offseason, there was a ton of trade speculation around him. Garrett had been upset at the way the direction of the Browns had been going, and he wanted assurances that this team would start winning.

The 2025 season was more of the same for the Browns, as it saw them finish the year with a record of 5-12, missing the playoffs again. But for Garrett, it was a historic year, as it saw him break the NFL sack record, posting 23.0 sacks over 17 games played.

Garrett has put up at least 14 sacks in each of his past five seasons in the league, showing an incredible consistency to get to the quarterback. The Browns’ star is one of the more feared defenders in the NFL, and even though Cleveland hasn’t won too many games, he has shone on the field.

There aren’t many better pass rushers in the history of the NFL than Garrett, but the Browns have somewhat wasted his overall potential. However, Garrett has stayed loyal to Cleveland despite the poor record of the team almost every year, but things could possibly change here soon.

After it was announced that the Browns had hired former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken to be the new head coach of the team, some news came out. It was reported that Browns defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, was upset that he had been passed over and would now be leaving the organization.

Garrett and Schwartz became close while working together, and it seemed as if the Browns star wanted him to become the new coach. This could cause the trade rumors to swirl around again, and Cleveland could look to trade Garrett if he were to ask out.

But how all of this will play out remains unknown at this time, but it could benefit the two sides to move on from one another. While losing a star like Garrett would hurt, the Browns could rebuild themselves, while Garrett would get a chance to play for a winning team.

Myles Garrett Traded Over to Detroit Lions

If Garrett is made available, there would be no shortage of trade suitors for the Browns to navigate through. But one team that could look to make a splash in landing him is the Detroit Lions, who desperately need to improve the defense for this coming season.

Detroit has had a lot of success over the last few years, but they’ve fallen short in the playoffs, or in the case of this year, they just missed the postseason bracket. One reason for this was that the Lions have seen a ton of injuries take place across the defense, and it has hurt them on the field.

But Garrett has been fairly reliable over the years, and he could give this team a massive boost in getting to the quarterback. Pairing him with Aidan Hutchinson could offer Detroit one of the more fearsome pass-rushing duos in the NFL, and the Lions could fully take off.

Garrett would fit in well to play under Lions head coach Dan Campbell, as he fits the physical, gritty mindset that the team is looking for. The Lions would need to pay a hefty price to land Garrett from the Browns, but adding an All-Pro like this doesn’t present itself often, and Detroit could absolutely take advantage if he is made available.
