ESPN report says the San Francisco 49ers could play a game in Mexico
If confirmed, it would be their second international for the upcoming season

There is more indication that the 49ers could be playing a game in Mexico City during the 2026 NFL season.ESPN’s John Sutcliffe, who is based in Mexico, said Wednesday that San Francisco will participate in a game at Estadio Banorte, formerly Estadio Azteca, in the upcoming season. Sutcliffe posted his report to X in Spanish, appearing to have confirmed the news.The NFL previously released the schedule for international games earlier this month. The 49ers confirmed to be playing the Los Angeles Rams for what will be the first-ever regular-season game down under. No date has been set, but it will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia.If the second game is confirmed, it would not be the 49ers’ first time in Mexico. The team played the Arizona Cardinals in 2021, their most recent visit. Before that, a 2005 match for the NFL’s first-ever regular season game outside of the United States.
