The Packers have been predicted to select Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Davison Igbinosun in the 2026 NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers have made it clear early in the offseason that they aren’t content with what they have accomplished over the past few seasons. While they have made it to the playoffs the last three years, the Packers have just one win to show for it, despite assembling a very talented roster on both sides of the ball.

Green Bay has spent the early portion of its offseason retooling its coaching staff, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. And while the Packers’ defense was more consistent than its offense in 2025, one team insider recently predicted that the team will look to fill a key area of need on the defensive side of the ball with its first pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.

Packers Predicted to Draft Cornerback Davison Igbinosun

While Green Bay’s defense was solid in 2025, its cornerback depth chart featured a fairly weak group. Free agent signing Nate Hobbs struggled, which forced Keisean Nixon, who profiles more as a nickelback, to play on the outside. While he held his own, it’s safe to say that the Packers don’t have a true No. 1 cornerback for the time being.

Making matters more difficult for Green Bay’s front office is that it doesn’t have its first-round pick in the 2026 draft after it sent it to the Dallas Cowboys as part of the Micah Parsons blockbuster trade. That means the Packers’ first pick this year is the No. 52 overall selection, which will make it harder for the team to add young talent that can produce right out of the gate.

Still, there will be a slew of talented players available at this pick, with one of them potentially being Ohio State Buckeyes cornerback Davison Igbinosun. After winning a title in 2024, Igbinosun starred as the Buckeyes’ top cornerback in 2025, racking up 53 tackles, two interceptions, and eight pass deflections in 14 games. In his latest Packers’ mock draft, insider Matt Schneidman of The Athletic predicted the team would select Igbinosun in the second round.

“The Packers at least need a cornerback they can develop into a true No. 1. Keisean Nixon and the Packers seem to think he’s just that, but his performance in the second half of the season would indicate otherwise,” Schneidman wrote. “Nixon turns 29 in June, and the Packers need a contingency plan for the future who can develop under Nixon and Carrington Valentine in the present.”

On paper, Igbinosun has the physical profile that is typically required of outside cornerbacks in the NFL (6’2, 193 lbs). However, he has an aggressive style of play that resulted in him getting penalized quite a bit during his time in college, so that will likely be something teams look to help the talented youngster work on as he makes the jump to the pros.

With the team reportedly considering moving on from Hobbs this offseason, drafting and developing Igbinosun would make a lot of sense for Green Bay. Not only could he potentially become a star down the line, but he could contribute right out of the gate if he proves to be a fast learner during training camp. The Packers could revamp their cornerback depth chart in free agency, but if it remains a weak spot by the draft, Igbinosun would be a very sensible selection.
