Mike McCoy’s back in the AFC West.
The former Denver Broncos assistant coach is returning to the Los Angeles Chargers as an assistant head coach under Jim Harbaugh, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
McCoy, 53, joined the Broncos in 2009 as a quarterbacks coach, and he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2010. After four seasons in Denver, he was named the Chargers’ head coach in 2013. McCoy went 27-37 with the Chargers before being fired following the 2016 season.
After that, McCoy returned to the Broncos for a second stint as offensive coordinator in 2017. After being fired by Vance Joseph, McCoy had stints with the Arizona Cardinals (2018) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2022-2024) before joining the Tennessee Titans as a senior offensive assistant in 2025.
After firing Brian Callahan last October, Tennessee named McCoy interim head coach. The Titans went 2-9 under McCoy and he did not return following the season. McCoy’s now back with the Chargers ahead of the 2026 campaign.
