Per Andrew Peters of Bleacher Report, veteran tight end David Njoku has indicated he will not return to the Cleveland Browns and plans to move on in free agency. Njoku posted on Instagram that it is time to “find a new home,” signaling the end of his long tenure in Cleveland.
The question now becomes whether the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should explore bringing him in.
From a fit standpoint, it makes sense on paper. Tampa Bay has an immediate need for consistent production at tight end, especially as the offense continues evolving with yet another new offensive coordinator this season. Njoku brings size, athleticism, and red-zone presence. When healthy, he can stretch the seam and create mismatches against linebackers and safeties, something the Bucs have not had at the tight end position in some time.
However, this move would depend heavily on cost and medical confidence. Njoku is entering his age-29 season, and durability has been part of the conversation. Tampa Bay would need to view him as more than a short-term patch, unless the price is right.
Still, if the Buccaneers want a proven veteran who can elevate the middle of the field immediately, Njoku is a name worth monitoring this offseason.
