The Dolphins are seeking a quarterback for the 2026 season
The Miami Dolphins will search for a starting quarterback this offseason. There is a possibility their next quarterback is already on the roster, as Quinn Ewers started three games for the Dolphins.
New offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who served as the senior pass-game coordinator in 2025, said of Ewers, “I think everybody just saw that in the last few games he played at the end of the year. He grew every game. You could see him get better and take steps every game. He’s got to continue to do that in the offseason program and I’m excited to get him back. He’s fun to work with and see what happens and see where it goes.”
However, the expectation is the Dolphins will at least bring in some competition for Ewers. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, the top free-agent quarterback may not be an option for Miami.
Daniel Jones Intends to Stay in Indianapolis
Fox Sports ranked 100 free agents available and listed quarterback Daniel Jones as the second-best available player, and the best quarterback on the open market. However, it seems he will not be an option as Tom Pelissero said on The Rich Eisen Show that, “Every plan is he is going to be back in Indy. He wants to be there. The Colts want to work on a deal. It will be a complicated deal, as they often are, particularly with a player coming off of a season-ending injury like an Achilles tear that Daniel Jones had … One way or another I anticipate Daniel Jones being back in Indianapolis.”
Prior to the season, Jones signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the Colts and won the starting job over Anthony Richardson. Jones started 13 games for the Colts, leading them to an 8-5 record as he posted the highest QBR of his career. Unfortunately, his season ended early as he suffered an Achilles tear.
Against the Dolphins, Jones led the Colts to victory. He went 22-for-29 with 272 passing yards, a passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns.
Miami Dolphins Possibilities at Quarterback
While the Dolphins may not get the top free agent quarterback, they could end up with the second highest rated quarterback in free agency. Fox Sports ranked Malik Willis as the ninth-best overall free agent and the second-best quarterback available. They also listed the Dolphins as his likeliest landing spot.
Regarding Willis’ upcoming free agency, Pelissero said, “I know that everybody has already photoshopped the Dolphins uniform onto him because of Jeff Hafley and Jon-Eric Sullivan, but the price is going to be high.” A general manager who spoke to Jason La Canfora revealed that he expected Willis’ price to be similar to Justin Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets. Whether the Dolphins are willing to pay that amount of money for an unproven quarterback remains to be seen.
The Dolphins currently have the fourth-least cap space in the NFL, but that is expected to change once they release Tyreek Hill and determine what to do with Tua Tagovailoa’s contract.
