Former Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr trying to make a play during an NFL game against the New York Jets.
Veteran quarterback Derek Carr has broken his silence on the New York Jets potential comeback rumors.
On his “Home Grown” podcast with his brother, Carr explained his stance on unretiring.
“Would I come back? The answer is obviously yes. But I’ve had to say no a couple of times so far … I told you this, it hasn’t changed from the first interview that we did, would I do it? Yes. Would I do it for anybody? Absolutely not. Would I do it? I absolutely would do it. I told you two things: I would have to be healthy, and I’d want a chance to win a Super Bowl. Obviously, that’s a tough thing to find. That is hard to do. That is not easy,” Derek Carr said.
“I’m going to tell you right now, though, I know you’re healthy,” David Carr, Derek’s brother, stated.
Bad News for Jets Fans?
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Jets are tied with the Las Vegas Raiders for the second-worst odds to win the Super Bowl next season (180-1).
The only teams that have worse odds (200-1) are the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals, via ESPN.
So if Carr’s decision is solely based on which team has the best chance at a Super Bowl. He couldn’t find many worse teams than the Jets based on those odds.

“This logic, conceivably, would rule the Jets out. We’ll see, though,” NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY responded.
“Think we can rule out the Jets convo…,” Matt O’Leary posted.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said, “Maybe he’s VERY high on the Jets.”
The Jets Aggressive 2023 Pitch Details
It’s funny that Rosenblatt brings that idea up. Back during the 2023 offseason, Carr and the Jets were staring at each other from across the dance floor. They had several meetings together at the NFL combine, at the team facilities, and even out to eat locally in New Jersey.
NFL Insider Dianna Russini, at the time, worked for ESPN. She shared some of the details of the Jets’ pitch to Carr.
“In terms of that visit with the New York Jets, I heard it went really well from both sides. In terms of what New York was trying to sell him, because let’s face it, that is what they’re doing at this point. They were pretty clear with him, they told him he is a great quarterback, they believe that he has a legit cast of supporting players, they went through the top D [defense], the skill guys, [and] the explosive run game,” Russini explained.
“They went through top to bottom of why Derek Carr can step in here and take this team not just to the playoffs, but to the Super Bowl. They made it really personal, saying, ‘We believe if you come to New York and win, you could be a first ballot Hall of Famer.’ They went full in on Derek Carr here to let him know they want him to play for the New York Jets,” Russini added.
Now, a lot has changed since then. The Jets have a different front office, coaching staff, and the roster has changed.
However, if Carr still remembers those good times, perhaps this is more of a possibility than anyone is letting on.
