The Buffalo Bills suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Denver Broncos to dash their Super Bowl hopes, and now the team is headed for more pain in the offseason.
The Bills are facing a tight salary cap situation, one that will force them into some difficult decisions on free agents. One analyst believes the Bills will face increasing pressure on some key players who may no longer financially fit in Orchard Park.
Bills Have Huge Free Agent Class
As NFL.com analyst Matt Okada noted, the Bills are facing one of the worst salary cap situations in the NFL. The team has several key players on both sides of the ball headed to unrestricted free agency, forcing them to make some tough calls on how to spread out the money.
“In terms of both current money and 2025 snap share, their batch of free agents is among the most notable in the league, including, but not limited to, center Connor McGovern, left guard David Edwards, corner Tre’Davious White, safety Jordan Poyer, edge rushers Joey Bosa and A.J. Epenesa, defensive tackles DaQuan Jones and Larry Ogunjobi, linebackers Matt Milano and Shaq Thompson, and even kicker Matt Prater and punter Mitch Wishnowsky,” Okada wrote.
Okada pointed to another player headed to free agency, one who once held a significant role in the offense — veteran receiver Gabe Davis. Okada suggested that the Bills will need to bring in new talent at wide receiver, but doing so could force a veteran like Davis to find a new home.
“Gabe Davis and Brandin Cooks also make that list, and while they’re not quite as hard to lose, there’s going to be a lot of pressure on GM Brandon Beane to acquire a star-caliber outside wide receiver for Josh Allen, which would make it even harder to prevent a veteran exodus elsewhere,” Okada wrote.
The Bills allowed Davis to leave in free agency last year, leading him to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Davis made only 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns in an injury-shortened season, then returned to Buffalo in 2025.
Davis missed the majority of the season while rehabbing the injury, then returned to a lighter role. He made just 12 receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown.
