Joe Brady has hired former NFL head coach John Fox to join his staff with the Bills as a senior assistant coach
The Buffalo Bills have been hard at work to begin the offseason. While there is still a lot of work to be done, it’s safe to say that the team’s coaching staff looks almost unrecognizable from what it was less than a month ago. Sean McDermott is no longer the team’s head coach, with offensive coordinator Joe Brady being promoted to take over for him.
Since taking over, Brady has completely retooled the coaching staff, moving on from McDermott’s guys and bringing his own people to town. Over the past few weeks, Brady has been making a new hire seemingly every day, and with the team’s full slate of coaching moves being announced, it looks like he waited right until the end to announce one of his most important additions.
Bills Hire John Fox to Work as Senior Assistant Coach
The #Bills have hired former NFL HC John Fox as a senior assistant coach on Joe Brady’s staff.
Being a first-time head coach is always tough, but Brady finds himself in a unique situation. While he has experience working with the Bills, he is taking over a team that has Super Bowl expectations. Typically, new head coaches are given some leeway, but Brady is going to be expected to win early and often now that he’s in charge of Buffalo.
Based on the moves he’s made to shore up his coaching staff, Brady isn’t taking that responsibility lightly. He’s worked hard on surrounding himself with a staff that blends experienced veterans with up-and-coming talents, and while coaching will only do so much in the NFL, it’s hard not to be encouraged by the additions Brady has made.
With the team announcing its full coaching staff on Friday afternoon, fans were quick to notice that former NFL head coach John Fox had been added to the staff. After spending time as a head coach with the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears, Fox will now be joining Brady’s staff and working as a senior assistant coach.

Bills’ Decision to Hire John Fox Another Shrewd Move

It’s going to be crucial that Brady leans on his coaching staff as much as possible in 2026, which is why having a guy like Fox at his disposal is such an eye-catching move. Fox has a wealth of experience working as a head coach, which means he can be someone for Brady to lean on as he navigates the twists and turns that come with being a new head coach.
Unlike many of the other guys the Bills have hired this offseason, Fox doesn’t have any ties to Buffalo or Brady. However, it’s clear he’s a respected voice who knows what it takes to successfully lead a team in the NFL, and if he can help Brady grow into his new role, that could be all the Bills need to reemerge as one of the top Super Bowl contenders across the league.
