The Buffalo Bills have gone to the ol’ pipeline once again. And this time, they’ve brought on one of the most successful head coaches in Carolina Panthers history.

As announced on Friday afternoon, the Bills have hired John Fox as a senior assistant coach. Fox was the head coach of the Panthers from 2002 to 2010.

Over that run—his first as an NFL head coach—Fox led the Panthers to two NFC South titles, three playoff berths and their first Super Bowl appearance. He departed as the franchise’s winningest coach at 73 wins, a total that would eventually be surpassed by his successor Ron Rivera (76).

After his firing from Carolina, Fox would go on to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2011 to 2014 and then the Chicago Bears from 2015 to 2017. He’s also picked up stops as a senior defensive assistant for the Indianapolis Colts (2022) and the Detroit Lions (2023).

Fox—in Buffalo—now joins general manager Brandon Beane, a former Panthers executive, and first-time head coach Joe Brady, a former Panthers offensive coordinator. Brady has replaced Sean McDermott, a former Panthers defensive coordinator.
