Rashan Gary

The Green Bay Packers are one-of-12 teams in the NFL that are in the negative for cap space going into the NFL offseason. After another disappointing season that led to an early exit in the playoffs the Packers need to make a lot of changes to get their cap space right and fix their playoff woes.

In a division that is only getting tougher and tougher by the year, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has to strategize how they will go about their business. With the Chicago Bears rising, the Detroit Lions right there, and the Minnesota Vikings lurking in the shadows with a strong roster, one misstep and the Packers will become irrelevant.

*Prediction*

Restructuring contracts will not be enough, they must look at all avenues to cut costs and build an entire roster that can compete. That means trading away some good players. That is why the Green Bay Packers will trade Rashan Gary to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Baltimore Ravens Have Ruined Lamar Jackson’s Career

Rashan Gary Traded to the Baltimore Ravens

Rashan Gary entered the league in 2019 with the Packers and showed early promise in his career. This earned him a four- year, $96 million contract extension in 2023, which puts him in a Packer uniform through the 2027 season. The 12th overall pick in the 2019 draft has amassed 46.5 sacks over seven seasons, having never really taken the next step and getting double-digit sacks in a season.

The Baltimore Ravens have hired Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as their next head coach and a big reason they brought him in was to rebuild and shape the defense to make a Super Bowl while they have Lamar Jackson.

In Jackson’s early years with the Ravens, their defense was one of the best but in the past few years the defense has been a real reason that they have not made it over the hump and into a Super Bowl appearance.

The Ravens are in desperate need to rebuild their pass rushing room on the team as their primary edge rushers are young talents like Mike Green and Tavius Robinson. Something they should not feel comfortable with in a tough AFC North and tough AFC overall.

The Ravens should look to add multiple edge rushers this offseason, however they see fit. Whether it be in free agency or the draft. They should start early and trade for the Packers edge rusher.

Gary would headline the change of the Ravens’ defense and give Minter a real piece he can build off.  The Packers trading for Micah Parsons last season would allow them to trade away Gary with not much of a drop-off. Lukas Van Ness will also be fully healthy in 2026 and help replace Gary.

What Would a Trade Look Like?

Rashan Gary is under contract for two more seasons for $19.5 million in 2026 and $22.5 million in 2027. This is relatively cheap for the position and his effectiveness over his career. With Gary not being in the elite tier for his position, the Packers should not expect a first round pick in the trade package but should get an offer that is worth it.

Gary’s trade value is in the market of a second round pick with a late round sweetener pick of that of a fifth or sixth round pick. The Ravens have four fifth round picks this upcoming draft and should try to package two of those with a third round pick first before giving up their second round pick.

The Ravens window is closing and they need to fix the defense right away. The Packers need to reinvent themselves and clear cap space out. That is why the Green Bay Packers will trade Rashan Gary to the Baltimore Ravens.
