The Dallas Cowboys have many upgrades needed on the defensive side of the ball in 2026, after finishing as the 30th ranked total defense last season sans Micah Parsons.

But one bright spark who will be set to fully return is inside linebacker, DeMarvion Overshown. Overshown suffered a horrendous knee injury in December 2024, tearing his ACL, MCL and PCL against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14.

The former 2023 third round pick returned for the final third of the season and played reasonably well, amassing 28 tackles and one tackle-for-loss in 6 games and 5 starts.

Yet the hope is that with more time to recover fully from his devastating injury, Overshown will return back to his even-better pre-injury form, where he was starting to look like a cornerstone of the offense.

DeMarvion Overshown Chimes In On Joe Judge Debate

However, the pro entering his fourth year decided to chime in on X during his spare time this offseason, commenting on what has been a widely circulated clip of former New York Giants head coach, Joe Judge, instructing college players with pregnant wives to “be in another room” and that they “ain’t waking up for midnight feedings”.

Don’t listen to this young men. Be there for the mother of your child and let the rest take care of itself. Those midnight feedings turns into financial freedom because nothing will inspire you more than being a great father. https://t.co/di5SLt5Xjt

“This is always a tough conversation to have,” Judge said in the original clip,”…We would have to educate significant others who may have been pregnant during the season, or are going to have a baby during the season, you have to educate them on you have the baby in the middle of the season – that father has to play good football…you need to let him sleep, he needs to be in another room detached.”

“You need to explain to the mother, ‘Hey listen he ain’t waking up for midnight feedings’…in season you need different priorities.”

Overshown Implores Players to “Be There” for Family

And Overshown was not overly thrilled with the message this sent to the young men at Ole Miss, especially coming from another high-powered SEC program himself in the University of Texas.

“Don’t listen to this young men.” Overshown wrote in his quote-reply to the video of Judge. “Be there for the mother of your child and let the rest take care of itself. Those midnight feedings turns into financial freedom because nothing will inspire you more than being a great father.”

Unsurprisingly, Judge’s comments sparked backlash from more than just Overshown, with most being on the Cowboys linebacker’s side. Since being posted on Friday morning, the post has been viewed nearly 700,000 times and has over 19,000 likes.

And there is truth to what he says. Although one imagines from a football coach’s perspective the need to keep players well rested and avoiding any and all distractions – especially a major one, like a crying baby – at the end of the day being there for your family makes young men better fathers and better people.
