The Seattle Seahawks blocked the Las Vegas Raiders’ request to interview assistant coach and offensive coordinator candidate Justin Outten to be their run game coordinator, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Friday.

Why Bump is confident Seahawks will nail their OC search

Outten, who spent this past season as Seattle’s run game specialist/assistant offensive line coach, is one of four reported in-house candidates the Seahawks are interviewing to replace Klint Kubiak as their offensive coordinator. Kubiak was officially named the Raiders’ head coach on Monday, one day after he helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl 60.

Per NFL rules, teams can block interview requests from other teams for jobs that would be lateral moves.

Outten, who Kubiak hired to his Seahawks’ offensive coaching staff last offseason, spent 2022 as the Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator. In the wake of head coach Nathaniel Hackett’s firing, Outten served as Denver’s offensive play caller for the final two games of that season. The Broncos averaged 27.5 points and 389 total yards over those two games.

Outten also took over the running back coach duties for the Seahawks in mid-December after Kennedy Polamalu took a leave of absence for personal reasons. Seattle’s ground attack took off down the stretch, averaging 150.8 rushing yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry over the Seahawks’ final three regular-season games and postseason run.

Defensive assistant staying with Seahawks

Seahawks defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Karl Scott, who interviewed for the Arizona Cardinals’ defensive coordinator job, is returning to Macdonald’s staff, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Scott is one of the few coaching staff holdovers from the Pete Carroll era. He has held his current role since 2022.
