The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t have the season they were hoping for after they were blown out in their wild-card round matchup against the Houston Texans. There are several reasons for optimism moving forward, though, with one being the emergence of Joey Porter Jr. as one of the top cornerbacks in the league.
In his third pro season, Porter racked up 52 tackles, one interception, 14 pass deflections and one sack. More importantly, though, Porter didn’t allow a single touchdown while in coverage for the third straight year, leading him to send a strong message on social media after this was pointed out by the Steelers.
“3 years no TDs! Yall favorite wrs can never say they touch paint fwm,” Porter said in a post on his Instagram story.
Porter doesn’t often get his due praise as one of the elite cornerbacks in the NFL, but he has continually improved over his first three seasons in the league. As he prepares to enter a contract year, it’s safe to assume that an extension could be in the cards for Porter over the next few months.
Pittsburgh’s front office has a couple of other things to take care of first, though. Most importantly, the team needs to figure out whether or not Aaron Rodgers will be their starting quarterback next season. An answer should come soon, but until then, the Steelers’ offseason plans are pretty much on hold.
