The Pittsburgh Steelers have plenty of roster needs to address in the upcoming free agency period, particularly at wide receiver, where there are a few key names to watch closely.

Currently, the Steelers have DK Metcalf and Roman Wilson atop the depth chart, but Jauan Jennings of the San Francisco 49ers would be an ideal acquisition for Pittsburgh’s offense.

Stats

2021 (16 games): 24 receptions, 282 receiving yards, 5 touchdowns

2022 (16 games): 35 receptions, 416 receiving yards, 1 touchdown

2023 (13 games): 19 receptions, 265 receiving yards, 1 touchdown

2024 (15 games): 77 receptions, 975 receiving yards, 6 touchdowns

2025 (15 games): 55 receptions, 643 receiving yards, 9 touchdowns

Fit with Steelers offense

Jennings would pair nicely with Pittsburgh’s new-look offense, as head coach Mike McCarthy loves to air the football out and the 49ers wideout is one of the league’s best in contested catches. Standing at 6-foot-three, Jennings is an outstanding route runner who possesses exceptional body control and would finally give the Steelers the talented WR2 they’ve been searching for.

Last year, rumors were swirling that the Steelers were previously interested in acquiring Jennings after he requested a trade due to failed extension talks with San Francisco. While the 49ers ultimately declined to deal their top wideout in 2025, Pittsburgh would be wise to pull the trigger in free agency this go-around.

Contract prediction

With Jennings set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, we at Steelers Wire predict the 28-year-old wideout to command a three-year, $48 million contract.
