Jeff Hafley’s first coaching staff with the Miami Dolphins features six former coaches from the Green Bay Packers, his previous employer. The former Packers defensive coordinator took three of his assistants from his final defensive staff in Green Bay, added two former Packers interns and also re-signed a former Packers defensive coordinator.
Sean Duggan, who was the Packers linebackers coach in 2025 and defensive assistant in 2024, will be Hafley’s defensive coordinator in Miami. It is a non-playcalling position; Hafley plans to call plays for the defense. Duggan has followed Hafley from Ohio State to Boston College to Green Bay and now to Miami.
Wendel Davis, a defensive quality control assistant in Green Bay over the last seven years, is moving up the coaching ranks — getting the assistant linebackers coach job in Miami. He previously coached linebackers at the collegiate level. With the Dolphins, Davis will work under three coaches with previous experience coaching linebackers in the NFL, including Duggan and Al Washington, the new linebackers coach.
Ryan Downard is the Dolphins’ passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach. He coached defensive backs in various capacities over the last seven seasons in Green Bay. He’ll now get the passing game coordinator title, an important promotion and a step towards a potential defensive coordinator title in the future.
Siriki Diabate, now a defensive quality control assistant, and Chuka Ndulue, the new assistant defensive line coach, both worked briefly with the Packers through diversity fellowships. Diabate was with the Packers as a member of the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship in 2024, while Ndulue spent time with the Packers through the same fellowship in 2022.

Last but not least, Hafley kept former Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry, promoting him to run game coordinator and senior defensive assistant. Barry was in Green Bay from 2021 to 2023, serving as the second defensive coordinator under Matt LaFleur. He no longer has the linebackers coach role in Miami.
Counting Hafley, the Dolphins will have seven former Packers coaches on Miami’s staff in 2026.
A couple of interesting notes on Hafley’s first staff: He has two coaching sharing the defensive backs coach role, with Downard and Jahmile Addae both working the same title. Hafley also hired a nickel coach under an assistant defensive backs coach title; DeShawn Shead, a former nickel for the Seattle Seahawks, will handle the job.
Also, Hafley did not take a member of the Packers offensive staff with him to Miami. He did hire former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo as passing game coordinator.
