The Los Angeles Rams are gearing up to run it back with Matthew Stafford at quarterback in 2026, putting them in a position to contend again. Even with Stafford returning, the Rams are going to have to address the position soon, as they will have to prepare for life after the experienced signal-caller.

Ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, there aren’t many quarterback prospects — besides Fernando Mendoza — who provide much confidence to teams that need a quarterback, which is why LA could prefer to trade for someone this offseason instead. But if the Rams are determined to select a quarterback in this year’s draft, Sawyer Robertson out of Baylor could be a name to watch.

With months to go until the draft begins, let’s discuss Robertson’s college production and how he fits the Rams.

Background/college production

Upon spending his freshman season at Mississippi State in 2022, Robertson transferred to Baylor in 2023. Robertson proceeded to start each of the last two seasons for the Bears, completing 60.3% of his passes for 3,681 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 2025.

While Robertson eclipsed 3,000 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns in each of his final two years in college, his career 60.5% completion percentage is a concern. Among college signal-callers with 200-plus dropbacks this past season, Robertson registered the 14th-lowest adjusted completion percentage (67.2%) and the 63rd-most yards per attempt (7.3), per PFF.

How he fits the Rams

Despite the Rams possibly looking for a more mobile quarterback once Stafford retires, Robertson fits the mold of a pocket passer at the next level. Robertson isn’t afraid to try making certain throws and is a quick decision-maker, though his accuracy can be extremely volatile.

Before starting in the NFL, Robertson will need time to improve on his accuracy and ability to adjust when defenses pressure him and disguise coverages. Luckily for the Rams, they’d be in a position to allow Robertson to sit at least one year before he sees the field.

Draft projection

There are certain games and performances that teams could look at when watching Robertson’s tape that could lead to him climbing up their draft board. However, his inconsistencies and turnovers have led to many mock drafts having him selected on Day 3, primarily in the fifth-to-seventh-round range.

Entering the 2026 NFL Draft, the Rams are expected to have 10 total picks, and 6 of those picks will take place in the final three rounds. Taking that into account, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Robertson be someone LA considers in the latter part of the draft.
