The rollercoaster ride of the San Francisco 49ers — a season packed with more loops than a prime-time thrill machine — has barely screeched to a halt after the chaos of 2025, and already the next wave of jaw-dropping headlines is crashing through the door. No cooldown. No offseason peace. Just more fireworks in the Bay.
And if there’s one topic that generates more heat than a game-winning field goal as the clock hits zero, it’s quarterback rankings. Nothing in the football universe gets dissected, debated, and dragged through the mud quite like the eternal showdown: Who is the real QB1?
Year after year, no quarterback seems to catch more stray shots, more side-eyes, more flat-out disrespect than one man — 49ers signal-caller Brock Purdy.
NFL Ranked All 63 Starting Quarterbacks From the 2025 Season
GettyDespite his strong performances, Brock Purdy’s talent doesn’t seem to be fully recognized.
Around The NFL Writer Nick Shook published his ranking of all 63 starting quarterbacks from the 2025 season.
And you had to scroll — and scroll — and scroll some more before finally spotting the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback buried in that list. Way deeper than many expected. Way lower than some believe he deserves.
Slotted into Tier 3 at No. 15, you finally find the name of the franchise quarterback from the Bay Area, Brock Purdy. Tier 3. 15th overall. A placement that’s guaranteed to raise eyebrows and spike the debate all over again.
Admittedly, Brock Purdy’s 2025 season doesn’t stack up against the likes of Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams or Drake Maye of the New England Patriots. But let’s not forget — Purdy played just nine regular-season games due to injury.
In those nine games, he racked up 2,167 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns and 3 rushing touchdowns, as well as 10 interceptions — carrying a huge chunk of the load that pushed the injury-hit San Francisco 49ers into the playoffs.
After the 2024 season, Purdy ranked 14th. In 2023, he was 7th and in 2022, he finished 15th. Even a Super Bowl appearance in his second year wasn’t enough for Tier 1 status. Meanwhile, Dak Prescott, ranked 3rd this year, didn’t even make the playoffs in 2025 with his Dallas Cowboys.
Fans Erupt on Social Media Over Latest QB Rankings
#49ers QB Brock Purdy ran 413 yards on 33 dropbacks tonight, per the FOX broadcast.
Tom Brady: “That’s almost like Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl I played against him.”
Football fans and experts are voicing their frustration on social media.
Brock Purdy is a top-10 QB no matter what stat you look at.
The only reason you don’t think he’s a top-10 QB is because you care more about how a QB looks than how he plays. https://t.co/T8ICJ1csU3

Robert Griffin III wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Brock Purdy is NOT just a game manager.
Brock Purdy is a Franchise QB who led his team on a 66-yard drive to beat the reigning Super Bowl Champ Philadelphia Eagles without the stacked roster around him that his haters claimed made him great.
PUT SOME RESPECT ON HIS NAME.”
Criticism is also growing when it comes to fantasy football rankings. @P2WFantasy posted:
“I consistently see Brock Purdy OUTSIDE the Top 12 in Dynasty Rankings for the position despite…
– 20.8 Fantasy PPG (#5) in 2025
– 18.6 Fantasy PPG (#10) in 2024
– 19.2 Fantasy PPG (#6) in 2023
2025 Fantasy Playoff Avgs:
– 297.7 Pass Yds
– 3.7 Pass TDs
– 32 Fantasy Pts”
Yet it seems that Mr. Irrelevant, despite all his accomplishments, will still be seen as a bit of Mr. Irrelevant — at least when it comes to quarterback rankings. The résumé keeps growing. The respect? Not so much.
