The Cincinnati Bengals have a few big needs to address this offseason, the majority of which fall on the defensive side of the ball.
While there could be more help offensively coming for the Bengals, nothing is more important than improving the defense. And of the top needs, the defensive line is the biggest one.
Moe Moton of Bleacher Report is urging the Bengals to address that need with a free agent signing of a former Denver Broncos veteran who’s 6-foot-4, 288 pounds, in John Franklin-Myers.
Bengals urged to sign John Franklin-Myers to bolster DL
“At 6’4”, 288 pounds, John Franklin-Myers has lined up in different spots across defensive lines, on the interior and on the end,” Moton writes. “In a three-down role, he’s exactly what Cincinnati needs up front to help out the pass rush and run defense.”
The Bengals have a clear need along the defensive line, but the focus has been primarily on edge rusher in the wake of Trey Hendrickson hitting free agency.
While they could go out and add a pass rusher, someone like Franklin-Myers could be the fix-all the Bengals defense needs.
The 29-year-old veteran has played in the NFL for seven seasons, with the most recent years coming in Denver with the Broncos.

He’s put up 14.5 sacks in two seasons with the Broncos, and during his time with the New York Jets, he’s racked up 17.5 sacks in four seasons.
Not only would he be a good fit for the defense, but he will also be a fair amount cheaper than the other top pass rusher on the open market this offseason.
Franklin-Myers might not be the most high-profile pass rusher in this year’s free agent class, but for the Bengals, who need more than just simple pass rusher help, he’d be a great option this offseason.
