With the NFL Scouting Combine just days away, the amount of time that I’m spending reviewing mock drafts has increased exponentially over the past week. One mock that particularly caught my eye comes from Cynthia Frelund, courtesy of NFL.com, where she has the Buffalo Bills addressing the team’s need at wide receiver.

This is Frelund’s first mock of the season, and in it she opts for the Bills to select wide receiver Denzel Boston (Washington) with the 26th selection in Round 1. Frelund praises Boston as a red-zone threat and someone who can help Buffalo’s offense.

“At 6-foot-4, Boston has top-tier speed and contested-catch win rates. His 20 touchdowns over the past two seasons also reflect his red-zone skills. He forecasts as a true WR1 for Josh Allen and new head coach Joe Brady.“ — Cynthia Frelund

Boston would bring an element of size to the Bills’ wide receiver corp, standing 6’4” and being listed at 210 pounds. Noted draft expert Lance Zierlein compares Boston to one of the most successful wide receivers in football — Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams. That’s certainly lofty praise for the redshirt junior, who Zierlein notes is “very skilled when it comes to winning jump balls and contested throws.”

The description of Boston sounds like someone Buffalo’s front office thought they drafted when selecting wide receiver Keon Coleman with the first pick in Round 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Coleman’s future with the Bills is certainly top of mind for most fans, and a story line that we’ll continue to monitor throughout free agency and this year’s draft.

Be sure to share your thought’s on the selection of Boston in the comments section below, and if there was another prospect that you would have preferred in Frelund’s latest mock draft.
