According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Cardinals are expected to add Matt Schaub to their coaching staff. Schaub spent his career with the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons from 2004 to 2020 and made 93 starts in the NFL.

Schaub is expected to bring his extensive on-field experience to a Cardinals offense that has been looking for stability at the quarterback position. The role would mark his first official coaching job in the league following his retirement as a player.

The hiring resonates in the desert, as Arizona has struggled with consistency over the last several years. The decision to bring in a former high-level quarterback for a key coaching position reflects a league-wide trend of placing experienced players into offensive coaching roles.

After a difficult 3-14 season this past year, fans have hoped to see changes at the coaching level. This move has given them optimism that the team may be heading in the right direction.

I was always a big fan of Matt Schaub and now he’s part of my favorite team, AZ Cardinals, as the quarterback coach! https://t.co/xUklaFi5sy

I’m actually pretty excited about this move. What was the number one thing we criticized Petzing for? Not getting Marv involved early and often. If anyone knows a thing about feeding his WR1, it’s Matt Schaub. https://t.co/PpZwU6v4Nd

As the coaching staff continues to evolve and new faces join the organization, bringing in a veteran who hasn’t been removed from the game for long could be another important step in getting Arizona back to where it wants to be.
