It appears there at least is one possible landing spot for 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk this offseason.

The disgruntled star, who sat out the entire 2025 NFL season after recovering from a torn ACL and MCL sustained midway through the 2024 season, has played his final game with San Francisco, as president of football operations/general manager John Lynch confirmed in his and coach Kyle Shanahan’s end-of-season press conference last month.

It’s unclear exactly how and when Aiyuk and the 49ers will part ways this offseason, but when they do, it seems Washington Commanders quarterback and Aiyuk’s former Arizona State University teammate, Jayden Daniels, might have interest in reuniting with his former wide receiver.

Daniels spoke to Yahoo! Sports’ Nate Tice at Super Bowl Radio Row two weeks ago in San Francisco and appeared to reference Aiyuk when asked if there was a certain type of wide receiver he would like the Commanders front office to target this offseason.

Talked to Jayden Daniels this week, including what type of player he might want to add to the Commanders offense this offseason.

“There’s a couple of individuals that are out there,” Daniels told Tice (h/t 49ers Webzone). “Maybe somebody from Arizona State, in my past.”

Potentially one who lives on the West Coast?

“Yeah there’s most definitely people like that out there,” Daniels added. “I don’t want to give too much, but when that time comes, hopefully we can sign those types of players.”

This wouldn’t be the first time the two have flirted with the idea of a potential reunion in the NFL. When Aiyuk and the 49ers were working through their complicated contract stand-off before the 2024 season, Aiyuk stated it would be “great” to reunite with Daniels in Washington if negotiations did not progress with San Francisco.

Daniels and Aiyuk were teammates at ASU in 2019, which was Aiyuk’s best season before he was selected by the 49ers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Aiyuk recorded 65 receptions for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns with Daniels as his quarterback.

Could the now-27-year-old wideout put up similar numbers with Daniels as his quarterback again in 2026?
