Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Schaub is taking a job with the Arizona Cardinals, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Schaub is expected to join Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur’s staff as the team’s new quarterbacks coach.

Schaub was originally selected by the Falcons in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played three seasons in Atlanta before getting traded to the Houston Texans in 2007. Over his seven seasons in Houston, Schaub made two Pro Bowls and led the league in passing yards in 2009.

The veteran quarterback returned to Atlanta in 2016, spending his final five seasons with the Falcons before retiring in 2020. Schaub was hired by the team as a football analyst in 2023, but he was dismissed in 2024 along with former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith.

Over his 17 NFL seasons, Schaub passed for 25,467 passing yards, 136 touchdowns and 91 interceptions for the Falcons, Raiders, Ravens and Texans. It will be interesting to see how Schaub fares in Arizona.

The Cardinals still have a former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray under contract, but many expect the team to move on from the quarterback in the offseason.
