The former Gamecock assistant will be trading Garnet and Black for Silver and Black as he will be working for one of the iconic NFL franchises.
Joe DeCamillis has officially been named the new special teams coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders.
The longtime NFL assistant has been in the college ranks for the past three seasons. In 2023, he was at Texas serving as the special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian. But the following year, Shane Beamer lured DeCamillis to Columbia and it was quite a coup for Beamer to land a 34-year NFL coaching veteran who won a pair of Super Bowls. DeCamillis spent 32 of those 34 seasons coaching special teams.Â
DeCamillis was named associate head coach/special teams coordinator and spent two seasons in that capacity but now he is headed back to the NFL working for the Raiders and new head coach Klint Kubiak. DeCamillis and Kubiak worked together in Denver.Â
That Denver franchise has a major Gamecock connection as the late Dan Reeves, a former USC quarterback who played running back in the NFL, was a former head coach of the Broncos along with stops as a head coach with the Giants and Falcons. DeCamillis is Reeves’ son-in-law.Â
The Raiders have a connection to Lower Richland graduate and three-time Super Bowl champion Richard Seymour. The Pro Football Hall of Famer is a limited owner of the Raiders with a 0.5% stake in the franchise.
