After five weeks of youth flag football action at the Center of Anna Maria Island, Adrian Griffin Interiors and Shady Lady Horticultural Services are comfortably in the 8-10 division lead with matching 4-0 records. USA Fence follows at 3-2, just in front of fourth-place Solid Rock Construction. Gulfster.com and Sato Real Estate are in sixth at 1-3, while Grooms Motor & Automotive completes the standings at 0-4.
The 11-13 division also has a pair of undefeated teams in 5-0, 82 West Home Inspections and Slim’s Place. USA Fence holds down third place at 3-2, while Florida Impact Windows, Reed Physical Therapy & Fitness and Sato Real Estate are all 2-3. Cloud Pest Control follows with a 1-4 record, just ahead of 0-5 G.I. Bins.
The girls’ 8-11 division has two teams battling for the top spot. Print Wizards at 4-0 is holding a slim lead on Sato Real Estate, which is 3-1. Emily Moss Designs holds down third with a 2-3 record, while 0-5 Poppo’s Taqueria completes the standings.
The 14-17 division also has two teams locked in a battle for first, with Moss Builders and Swordfish Grill tied with 4-0 records, comfortably ahead of third place Better on Bikes at 2-2. Solid Rock Construction at 2-3 holds fourth, while HSH Designs and MI-Box both are 1-3. Wings ‘N Things completes the standings at 1-4.
Adult flag football action
Three weeks into the adult flag football league at the community center, four teams appear to be title contenders.
Coaster Continent and Fish Guy Aquarium Services are tied atop the division with 3-0 records, just ahead of Beach House Real Estate and Reel Coastal Properties, both at 2-1. From there, a quintet of teams — Edible Cookie Dough Cafe, Moss Air Conditioning, Salty Printing, Sandbar Restaurant and Solid Rock Construction — all have 1-2 records, just ahead of cellar-dweller Slim’s Place at 0-3.
Action in the adult flag football league kicked off Feb. 12 with Moss AC edging Reel Coastal Properties 14-6 in what can only be called a defensive struggle.
Jonathan Moss threw touchdown passes to Noah Hatt and Greg Moss, who added an interception that resulted in a safety to lead Moss to victory.
Zachariah Anabtawi threw a touchdown pass to Zachary Long to account for the lone score for Reel Coastal Properties in the loss.
The second game of the night saw Fish Guy Aquarium cruise past Sandbar 40-20 behind four TD passes and a pair of TD runs by quarterback Jeremy Cruz Rodriguez. Christian Hampton had three TD receptions and Chris Johnson added one TD and three extra points in the win.
Dominick Otteni threw a pair of TD passes to Ben Jones in the loss while adding a TD run.
Tuna McCracken threw five TD passes to lead Beach House Real Estate to a 33-28 victory over Salty Printing in the third game of the night.
Tyler Brewer led all receivers with eight catches, including three touchdowns, while Cole Carter and Kevin Roman each finished with a TD in the victory.
Miguel Rodriguez threw three TD passes and added a TD reception to lead Salty Printing, which also received TD catches from Travis Bates, Jairis Gomez and Rex Kesten. Cody Allen completed the scoring for Salty Printing with a TD pass and an extra point in the loss.
The fourth game of the evening saw Coaster Continent hold on for a 41-40 victory over Solid Rock Construction behind five TD passes from Matt Manger and a TD pass and three TD catches from Anthony Mannino. Kove Alvarez finished with two TD catches and 3 extra points while Ramon Guerrero IV added a TD catch in the victory.
Ryan Moss paced Solid Rock Construction with six TD passes, including three to Logan Heath and two to Audrey Guess. Caleb Arendt added a TD reception for Solid Rock in the loss.
The last game of the evening saw Edible Cookie Dough hold on for a 27-24 victory over Slim’s Place. Dallas Buchholtz threw three TD passes and Steven Pavina ran for a score and added two TD catches in the victory.
Corey Von Borstel threw four TD passes, including two to Cameron Burke to lead Slim’s Place, which also received TD catches from Sequiel Marintez and Brandon Rolland in the loss.
Horseshoe news
Two teams emerged from pool play and settled things in a playoff during Feb. 11 horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall pits.
The team of Steve Doyle and Del Reese cruised to a 22-7 victory over Bob Mason and Bob Baker to earn the day’s bragging rights.
The Feb. 14 games saw four teams advance to the playoffs after posting 3-0 records during pool play.
The first semifinal saw Bob Hawks and Mason eliminate Billy Silver and Jay Disbrow 21-1, while Reese and Tom Farrington advanced with a 22-6 victory over Bob Lee and Bill Galbally.
The championship match saw Hawks and Mason rally from a 14-0 deficit to record a 21-17 victory over Reese and Farrington.
Horseshoe action gets underway at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by random team selection.
There is no charge to play and everyone is welcome.
Key Royale golf news
Golf action at the Key Royale Club in Holmes Beach got started Feb. 9 with a men’s modified-Stableford and Skins match.
Tom Solosky carded a plus-5 to take clubhouse bragging rights for the day by a point over second-place finishers Ed Harrel, Ron Huibers and Greg Shorten.
Eric Lawson won the only skin on the fifth hole.
The women played a nine-hole individual-low-net match in two flights with a side game during the round of fewest putts.
Judy Christenson fired a 4-under-par 28 to lap the field in Flight A. Linda Brockway and Lisa Edmonds tied for second place at even-par 32 while Rene Chapman and Debbie DuVernay tied for third at 1-over-par 33.
Annette Hall carded the low round of the day with a 5-under-par 27 to take first place in Flight B. Judy Menchek was alone in second with a 4-under-par 28, while Sue Wheeler took third with a 2-over-par 34.
Terry Westby won the low putts competition with 13 for her round, while Connie Livanos and Jan Turner both had chip-ins during their round.
The week of organized golf outings concluded Feb. 12 when members played a scramble/shamble combo on a modified course playing to a par of 50.
The team of Eric Lawson, Jana Samuels and Larry Solberg combined on a 5-under-par 45 to earn clubhouse bragging rights for the day. The team of Dave DuVernay, Marcia and Tim Friessen and Bob Paine were a stroke back in second, while the team of Tim Dunigan, Jenny and Ron Huibers and Bill MacMillan were alone in third at 2-under-par 48.
