Penn State Schuylkill takes down Saint Joseph’s in the Inaugural Game of the ECAC/Jets Flag Football
Danbury, CT – Penn State Schuylkill opened the season with a 21-6 road victory over Saint Joseph’s University in the first-ever ECAC flag football game. The ECAC and the NFL’s New York Jets have joined forces to create an intercollegiate women’s flag football league, funded by a generous grant from the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation.
The February 9 matchup marked the official kickoff for the new league. The lion’s share of competition for the league begins following Media Day on February 27 at MetLife Stadium.
The ECAC/Jets league features 15 colleges and universities from across the Northeast. It is organized through a partnership between the New York Jets and the ECAC, with funding provided by a sponsorship grant from the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation. The league will expand and bring in many more teams next season.
With the popularity of girls flag football exploding in youth sports across the country and women’s flag football now set to be included in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, The ECAC and the Jets partnership is intended to enable intercollegiate competition to catch up.
