Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix is a top-10 signal-caller in the NFL.
He won 14 games this past season and another in the playoffs. The Broncos were the No. 1 seed in the AFC and likely would’ve gone to the Super Bowl if Nix didn’t break his ankle against the Buffalo Bills.
Seemingly everyone in Denver knows he’s a stud and the future of the franchise. It’s easy to see Nix hoisting the Lombardi Trophy wearing orange and blue one day.
However, nationally there are still some puzzling rankings.
Just last week an official list on NFL.com ranked Bo Nix as the 18th best QB in the league for the 2025 season. That’s hogwash. Nix was in the top-10 in both yards and touchdowns and led the Broncos to victory in an overwhelming percentage of his starts.
And then, ESPN’s Mina Kimes ranked Nix as the fourth best quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. She had him behind Drake Maye, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. Each of those guys has had one good season.
Bo Nix is the only QB from that class to put together back-to-back winning campaigns. He’s also the lone guy from the group to go to the playoffs each of his first two years.
For some reason, the national media doesn’t believe in Nix, even if the vast majority of the local fanbase is on board.
The No. 1 mission for the Broncos this offseason should be adding offensive weapons around Nix and using the disrespect as fuel for a Super Bowl run.
Whether it be wide receiver, running back or tight end, Denver can upgrade all three positions. That’ll be the goal for head coach Sean Payton and GM George Paton, helping take Bo Nix and his game to an even higher level.
Free agency will be here in only a few weeks. That’s the perk of playing late into January, the league calendar flips quickly and we don’t have to wait long for action.
It sounds like George Pickens is going to be franchise-tagged by the Dallas Cowboys, but he’d look great in a Broncos uniform with a trade a distinct possibility. Mike Evans and Romeo Doubs are potential targets for Denver as well and can be signed next month. Evans is a future Hall of Famer, Doubs was consistently undervalued in Green Bay.
And if the front office wants to dream real big, why not call the Minnesota Vikings about Justin Jefferson? He doesn’t seem real happy and the QB situation is murky in Minny.
Jefferson will count for nearly $40 million against the salary cap next year, but who cares? The Russell Wilson dead money is finally off the books and the Broncos have the richest ownership group in the NFL.
At running back, Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III would be an awesome fit in Denver. He’s the prize of the free agent class and if the Broncos have to overpay him, then so be it.
Walker proved during his special postseason run he’s a star. Everyone likes J.K. Dobbins, but he can’t stay healthy. If the Broncos had Walker this past season, they probably would’ve beaten the Patriots and played for a title even without Bo Nix.
The tight ends are interesting, with Kyle Pitts, Dallas Goedert, Isaiah Likely and David Njoku all viable options in free agency. The Broncos swung and missed with Evan Engram. It’s time to take another swing, even if it means cutting Engram and absorbing a hefty dead cap hit or trying to trade him.
And this is just free agency. Once the dust settles from that, Payton and Paton should spend premium draft picks on the same three positions come late April.
The Broncos defense is largely set as well as the offensive line. Adding dynamic playmakers for Bo Nix has to be the top priority.
The only way to flip the narrative might be winning the Super Bowl in 362 days. That journey won’t start on the field for quite some time, but it should begin off the field ASAP.
