It’s not set in stone, but the Las Vegas Raiders are widely expected to draft Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
If that indeed happens, they’ll need to make sure he has the proper offensive talent around him to succeed.
That’s where Romeo Doubs comes in.
The Guardian Cap-wearing free agent wide receiver from the Green Bay Packers is one of the best pass catchers on the open market.
ESPN’s Matt Bowen wrote in a new article on Tuesday that Vegas is the best fit to sign Doubs.
“The Raiders can add to their wide receivers room for new coach Klint Kubiak by signing Doubs,” Bowen writes. “His ability to uncover and work the heavy traffic areas of the field would be great for anticipated top-pick quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Doubs is a reliable pass catcher.”
Packers fans won’t love seeing Doubs go, but they’ve put themselves in a bind with a crowded WR depth chart that also includes Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden and Dontayvion Wicks.
Green Bay can’t really afford to pay Doubs something like $20 million per year to keep him around.
The Raiders, on the other hand, can shell out some cash to get Mendoza a trustworthy wideout to go with RB Ashton Jeanty and TE Brock Bowers.
Doubs certainly fits the bill. The Raiders would have to sign him before the draft actually arrives, but since their pick doesn’t hold a lot of suspense, there shouldn’t be any issues there. Doubs could certainly work out well for Vegas.
