‘Tis the season of rumors, reports, speculation, leaks, and agent-media quid pro quo, so take this as you will, but earlier today, John Gambadoro, who works for Arizona Sports 98.7 FM out of Phoenix, shared this via his social media account.
“Have heard the Cardinals are intrigued by Bears backup QB Tyson Bagent. He has one-year left on his deal so would have to trade for him. Grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia and went to Shepherd University. Was an undrafted free-agent who beat out PJ Walker for the backup job with Chicago and was so good the Bears signed him to a 2-year $10M extension.”
I asked around to gauge Gambadoro’s reputation with breaking Arizona Cardinals news, and was told he’s legit and not some engagement farmer.
The Cardinals seem intent on trading or releasing long-time starting quarterback Kyler Murray, so adding Bagent (signed through 2027) to a quarterback room with veteran Jacoby Brisset (signed through 2026) would give new head coach Mike LaFleur a couple of options.
The Chicago Bears clearly value Bagent’s place on the roster, but getting a draft pick for a former undrafted free agent they signed and developed is good business. I can’t see the Bears sending him away for just anything, but if the Cardinals make a serious offer, it makes sense for the Bears to listen.
What are your thoughts on what a Bagent trade would look like?
