The Green Bay Packers could be on the verge of losing wide receiver Romeo Doubs in free agency next month.
The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman believes Doubs will not return to Green Bay in 2026 as the Packers look to clear the way for Matthew Golden to have a more prominent role in his second season.
“I’d expect him [Golden] to be a much bigger part of the game plan next season. I’m not putting him above Christian Watson or Jayden Reed just yet, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use him over Dontayvion Wicks, and Romeo Doubs is as good as gone in free agency. Here’s what Gutekunst said about Golden recently,” Schneidman said.
Doubs will have a plethora of suitors in free agency, as the 25-year-old is coming off one of his best seasons with 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns.
The San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, and New England Patriots should all show interest in Doubs on the open market.
San Francisco is expected to move on from Brandon Aiyuk this offseason, and with Jauan Jennings also set to enter free agency, receiver could become the team’s biggest need.
Adding Doubs to Kyle Shanahan’s offense would be absolutely electric, and give quarterback Brock Purdy a dynamic young weapon who’s only getting better.
Buffalo must acquire a few more impactful playmakers for quarterback Josh Allen, and Doubs fits that bill. The Nevada product wouldn’t be a high-level No. 1, but would fix some of the issues the Bills had in their passing attack in 2025.
Like Buffalo, New England needs more receiving talent to help out their star quarterback, Drake Maye. Pairing Stefon Diggs, assuming he returns to the team in 2026, with Doubs would give Maye one of the most versatile receiver duos in football.
Spotrac projects Doubs will land a $48 million contract over four seasons. The Patriots and 49ers are slated to have $41 million in cap space, with the Bills being $12 million under the cap.
We’ll see where Doubs ends up signing, but it looks like he’ll have a new home in 2026, and it could be in New England, San Francisco, or even Buffalo.
