The Seattle Seahawks have a No. 1 wideout in Jaxon Smith-Njigba. However, even after winning Super Bowl LX, they did so without a consistent No. 2 guy behind Smith-Njigba. As a result, could Seattle look for someone who can fill that void this offseason?
After the Miami Dolphins cut ties with veteran wideout Tyreek Hill, many analysts are wondering where he could continue his career, and one name mentioned was the Seahawks. Hill would slot in behind Smith-Njigba and bring speed.
Nonetheless, former NFL wideout Steve Smith Sr. doesn’t see the reigning Super Bowl champions as a fit for Hill, despite the No. 2 role being open to anyone, whether they are on the roster or someone the front office will bring in this offseason.
“I don’t know about Seattle,” Smith said on the Feb. 17 edition of 89 with Steve Smith and James Palmer. “They got some young guys that they really like, and I just think that will stunt their growth. Some of those guys weren’t available because of injury.
“So now you’re going to bring Tyreek Hill in, and he’s going to practice, which means he may not be available, but when he starts practicing, that’s taking key reps away from the young guys that you need to step up and develop.
“Especially with a new offensive coordinator. We all know new offensive coordinators; whether you keep the same system or not, there’s always a learning curve. There’s always something that does not go as smoothly as you want, and it works itself out throughout the season.”
Could the Seahawks Draft a Wideout This Offseason?
While Hill might not be a fit for Seattle, the Seahawks are being linked to another wideout. CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson believes that the Seahawks should consider using the draft to find the WR2 behind Smith-Njigba. Moreover, one of the draft prospects he urges Seattle to consider is a local product from the Washington Huskies.
“If [the Seahawks are] trying to get a wide receiver, [with] Rashid Shaheed [hitting free agency], they’ll get Tory Horton back, of course; [however], Denzel Boston might be an option here,” Wilson said during a Feb. 10 appearance on CBS Sports HQ. “[Boston is] 6‑foot‑4‑inch [and] can run for days. He would be sort of a DK Metcalf replacement with a little bit more versatility.”
The Washington native had 62 catches for 881 yards and scored 12 touchdowns in 11 games in 2025, per StatMuse.
Rashid Shaheed Gets Free Agency Prediction
Meanwhile, Seattle could be losing a wideout this offseason. Rashid Shaheed will be a free agent, and the Seahawks have plenty of cap space to re-sign him.
However, they might see other areas as a bigger priority over keeping Shaheed. As a result, during a Feb. 9 segment on CBS Sports HQ, Wilson noted that the Buffalo Bills would be an ideal landing spot for him.
“[Shaheed] could be a wide receiver two or three [and] he adds to the return game; he wins down the field consistently on deep routes,” Wilson said. “All that came together once he arrived in Seattle. I think he makes a lot of sense for teams that need speed. The Buffalo Bills might be interested in someone like Rashid Shaheed to pair off opposite Keon Coleman.”
