Are Maxx Crosby and the Raiders headed towards a divorce?
That’s what every Raider fan is wondering right now, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport offered his perspective on the situation on Tuesday.
“This is as complicated a situation as I can remember,” Rapoport said of Crosby’s status with the Raiders.
“I’ll go through the reasons why… [The end of the season] had an effect on him. He wanted to play, it turns out he had a significant knee injury, but he wanted to play and was upset that he did not get to finish on the field with his teammates… He was upset. Then he has surgery and it’s not a trim, it’s a repair. It’s… not as major of a repair as it could have been.”
“[Meniscus repair] is usually months, not weeks. So I don’t think he would be cleared to get traded in March… unless somebody wanted to take a leap of faith. So you’re probably looking at more [like] the draft or around August for a possible trade. And then [the Raiders] promoted his position coach to defensive coordinator to which one person very involved in the situation said to me ‘The plot thickens.’ So it’s very, very complicated as to where this goes.”
FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer reported prior to the Super Bowl that he expects Crosby to be traded before the draft, and there’s no question the Raiders and Crosby have a lot to sort out if the sides are going to stay together into next season.
There has been a lot said and done between Crosby and the Raiders that has not been reported, and some of those interactions are going to be difficult to mend.
Crosby seems to be a fan of new head coach Klint Kubiak, but Crosby’s issues with the team go back long before Kubiak.
Crosby said there has been a lot of “random people” talking about his future, but if Glazer was the person Crosby called when he stepped away from the team for a weekend in December, there’s a good chance Glazer isn’t just a “random person” in Crosby’s world.
Crosby might not have wanted Glazer’s message in the news (or maybe he did), but as Rapoport pointed out, the situation between Crosby and the Raiders is complicated and it seems more than complicated enough to believe the sides will part ways before the start of the 2026 season.
