The New England Patriots have made a first addition to their coaching staff this offseason, and it comes in the form of a familiar face. B.J. Edmonds, who spent time with the team last summer as a coaching intern, was hired in an undisclosed role.
Edmonds joining the Patriots comes only a month after he was announced as running backs coach at Southern Miss. Pete Thamel of ESPN was first to report the move.
A cornerback during his four-year college career at Arkansas State, Edmonds went into coaching in 2020 as a defensive graduate assistant at Kansas Wesleyan. He moved to Utah State the following year and spent the next three seasons in the same role. In 2024, he joined Duke as a defensive analyst primarily working with the Blue Devils’ cornerback group.
The Patriots hiring Edmonds is the latest change to their coaching staff.
They also promoted Zak Kuhr to defensive coordinator after moving previous DC Terrell Williams to what has been called a “high-ranking role” on the staff. In addition, Vinny DePalma was hired to fill Kuhr’s former job as inside linebackers coach after spending the last two years as a defensive assistant.
