The Pittsburgh Steelers may be making a handful of moves to their roster with the arrival of new head coach Mike McCarthy, and there’s a possibility that they could trade one of their star players.
Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon highlighted wide receiver DK Metcalf as a player who should be traded during the offseason and explained why it should happen.
“The 28-year-old simply wasn’t enough of a difference-maker in his first year with the Steelers, who appear to be generally headed into somewhat of a rebuild as a franchise,” Gagnon wrote on Wednesday. “A Metcalf trade would save the team $7 million in cap space while landing them considerable draft assets.”
The Steelers acquired Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks last offseason, and he had an average season, racking up 850 receiving yards and scoring six touchdowns.
However, it would be complicated for the Steelers to trade Metcalf, and Gagnon explained why he doesn’t believe it will happen.

“This franchise doesn’t often act rashly, and Metcalf cost them draft capital just a year ago,” Gagnon added. “Pittsburgh also signed the two-time Pro Bowler to a lucrative extension as part of the trade with Seattle, so the sunk-cost factor is significant in this case. Plus, they may still bring back Aaron Rodgers and have no other bona fide No. 1 receiver options.”
