When discussing how quickly Arizona would be able to turn around from its 3-14 season heading into 2026, Hackett was quick to point out that building a winning franchise is a long process.

Hackett on if Cardinals can compete in 2026:
“Everybody wants things fast in today’s society. For coaches, we always want to win. We want to win every game, doesn’t matter what the situation is, we always want to have explosive offenses, great defenses and amazing special teams. That is what we’re always going to strive for. You hope the chips fall in our direction…It’s about building a foundation for our guys and have them believe in something.”

Hackett doesn’t want to have a quick one-year wonder and then return back to mediocrity. The goal would be for this coaching staff is to build a system and culture that elevate themselves and players on/off the field. The former Denver Broncos coach has been a part of systems, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, that have had a magical resurgence and success, but it didn’t maintain for longer than a season or two.
The Cardinals aren’t trying to be a flash in the pan, but a serious organization for year’s to come. A stellar message in theory, but compared to team’s like the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots that just hired new head coaches and immediately make it the postseason, it’s hard for Cardinals fans to accept.

The difference between those franchises and Arizona is strictly the quarterback position. Hackett and LaFleur haven’t built any confidence that Kyler Murray will be under center for the team next season. Meaning the Cardinals are lacking in that department to make a leap into their first postseason berth since 2021, which is why Hackett is trying to highlight that 2026 might be another rebuilding year.
