CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns fans read one goodbye from a fan favorite last week. This week, another said his goodbye on social media.

Right guard Wyatt Teller posted a farewell message on his Instagram page on Wednesday.

“I wish things were different and this is hard to put into words,” he wrote. “When Buffalo traded me to Cleveland seven years ago, I never could have imagined how much this city would mean to me. Ultimately, the Browns took a chance on me that changed the trajectory of my life forever.”

Tight end David Njoku said goodbye to Cleveland last week in an Instagram post as well. Both are free agents.

It’s likely the Browns will use one of their two post-June 1 cut designations on Teller. Due to void years on his contract (a mechanism used to spread out money over time), he carries a cap hit of $19.404 million in 2026 and $11.111 million in 2027.

A post-June 1 designation would reduce those numbers to $8.293 million and $6.493 million respectively.

The Browns acquired Teller in a trade with Buffalo right before the start of the 2019 season. He took over as the starting right guard in Week 9 of that season and didn’t look back.

He started 94 games for the Browns and reached his 100th overall career start last season in a Week 13 loss to the 49ers.

That was also the day the Browns started rotating Teller with guard Teven Jenkins and when Teller, 31, injured his calf late in the game.

He returned to play nine offensive snaps against Pittsburgh in Week 17, once again rotating with Jenkins, but reaggravated his calf injury and was placed on injured reserve before the season finale in Cincinnati.

Teller quickly became a fan favorite in Cleveland, part of a powerful offensive line that fueled one of the league’s best rushing attacks. Fans fell in love with his pancake blocks that went viral on social media and with his personality away from the field.

One of his most memorable moments came during the offseason in 2021 when he carried an alligator over his shoulders.

Teller’s wife, Carly, became just as prominent a figure in the community as well. A consistent presence on social media, she started a tradition of sending Christmas cards to fans and was a fixture at games.

“I’ve made friendships and connections on and off the field that will last far beyond the game of football,” Teller wrote in his post. “Our family is so blessed and grateful for everyone in Northeast Ohio who has supported and loved us these past seven years.”

The Browns extended Teller and left guard Joel Bitonio, who is currently contemplating retirement again this offseason, in 2021. Along with center JC Tretter and later Ethan Pocic, they made a formidable interior trio when the Browns offense was at its best.

The Browns’ offensive line is in transition this offseason. Pocic, now a free agent, ruptured his Achilles last season and his backup, Luke Wypler, suffered a serious injury in Week 18 against the Bengals.

Right tackle Jack Conklin is also a free agent.

CLEVELAND,

I wish things were different and this is hard to put into words. When Buffalo traded me to Cleveland seven years ago, I never could have imagined how much this city would mean to me. Ultimately, the Browns took a chance on me that changed the trajectory of my life forever.

To the most loyal fans in the NFL, I hope y’all know that you have made a mark on my family’s life forever. I proposed to Carly on the 50 yard line at the stadium, bought our first home here, and proudly welcomed both of our babies to the world in Cleveland.

I’ve made friendships and connections on and off the field that will last far beyond the game of football. Our family is so blessed and grateful for everyone in Northeast Ohio who has supported and loved us these past seven years.

While we are excited and look forward to what the future holds, Cleveland will always have a special place in our hearts. As always…Go Browns!

With love and pancakes,

Wyatt Teller #77
