The Los Angeles Chargers are one team that I’m struggling to get a proper read on ahead of the offseason.

With yet another failed playoff campaign for Justin Herbert (now 0-3), the Chargers hired Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator to try to finally get the most out of Herbert.

The defense will once again be the team’s strong suit, but looking ahead to 2026, what can we expect from Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers?

The Chargers currently have the 9th-best Super Bowl odds, with those odds being provided by DraftKings.

“The oddsmakers are showing the Chargers some respect despite back-to-back early exits from the playoffs,” Sports Illustrated’s Ryan Gilbert wrote. “The Chargers did already make one fairly significant change, though, bringing in Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator to try to help out Herbert in the offense.

“We’ll see if that can help push Herbert and the Chargers over the hump this season.”

Can McDaniel unlock Herbert?

Well, that would be the hope, right?

After years of failure, this will be perhaps the “best” coordinator Herbert has had, who is seen as an offensive genius.

What McDaniel did in his early years with Miami is surely what the Chargers are hoping he can bring to L.A for Herbert.

Yes, there are still needs that have to be addressed, but with a healthier offensive line (we hope), the Chargers could be a much better team in 2026.

But it is all centered around Herbert.

Can he finally show the NFL world that he’s more than just a regular-season quarterback?

We’re about to find out.
