A former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and multi-time Pro Bowl selection will be looking for a new home ahead of the 2026 season.

The news broke on Thursday that the Washington Commanders are set to cut ties with cornerback Marshon Lattimore this offseason, clearing 18.5 million in cap space while making the veteran defensive back an unrestricted free agent. Lattimore has one season remaining on his contract, but the Commanders will not face a salary cap penalty for the move.

Lattimore was the 2017 Defensive Rookie of the Year and has been selected to four Pro Bowls (2017, 2019, 2020, 2021). The Commanders traded three 2025 draft picks to the Saints in exchange for the corner midway through the 2024 season. But Lattimore missed the latter half of the 2025 season with a torn ACL, which marked the fourth consecutive season Lattimore has missed extended time due to injury.

During that stretch, Lattimore’s production has dropped, and he was graded among the worst 20 cornerbacks in the NFL with enough snaps to qualify by Pro Football Focus in his nine games played last season. But Lattimore still has a tremendous potential upside in the right scheme once his injury issues are worked out, and he could still garner significant interest this offseason.
