Heading into the 2026 NFL offseason, both the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be interesting teams to keep an eye on.

Both historic franchises will be looking to be aggressive in pursuit of championship contention. Each of them has specific needs that need to be addressed in order to make that goal become a reality.

For Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, they will need to figure out the future of star wide receiver George Pickens. Of course, these two teams pulled off a trade last offseason that sent Pickens to Dallas. After that decision is made, the Cowboys will then need to focus on improving the defense, with the secondary being a major need.

As for the Steelers, the future of Aaron Rodgers is in question. They need to figure out the quarterback position. Other areas will need improvement as well, such as the wide receiver position.

Jalen Ramsey, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys

Heading into the NFL offseason, these two teams have been linked as potential trade partners. Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine has suggested a deal between the two that could help each of them in their pursuit of contention.

In his suggested trade, Dallas would acquire star cornerback Jalen Ramsey from Pittsburgh in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

“There is risk in trading for Ramsey. He’s 31 and was moved to safety in the latter half of the season in Pittsburgh,” Ballentine wrote. “However, it probably would only cost a Day 3 pick given his price tag and age. Even if the Cowboys have to keep him at safety, he would bring playmaking and leadership to the secondary.”

Whether or not the Steelers would want to move on from Ramsey after just one season remains to be seen. He played in all 17 regular season games during the 2025 season, racking up 88 total tackles to go along with three sacks, an interception, and eight defended passes.

Ramsey is still capable of playing a key role within a championship contending defense. The Cowboys would be improving their cornerback room with this move and giving up a fifth-round pick would be a no-brainer decision. Pittsburgh’s secondary would take a step back, although the team could quickly pivot to replace him.

It’s just an idea at this point in time. However, it’s one that could make sense for both Dallas and the Steelers.
