WILL COUNTY, Ill. (WTVO) — Misty McMichael, the widow of Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Steve “Mongo” McMichael, has been charged with domestic battery.

According to court records, McMichael, 55, faces one count of domestic battery involving physical contact, WFLD reported.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were called to a home in Frankfort on Kuse around 5:25 a.m., after a caller hung up during a 911 call.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they encountered both McMichael and a man who told law enforcement they had been drinking and arguing for several hours.

Police said the victim told officers that McMichael choked him when the argument became physical, which McMichael disputed.

A witness told police they had heard the pair arguing for hours, and heard loud noises and banging. Later, they said they found the two on the kitchen floor.

Deputies reported seeing injuries and scratches on the victim’s neck. McMichael was arrested and taken to the Will County Jail.

Steve McMichael died in April 2025 from ALS, at the age of 67.
